In the Summer of 2018 I visited Mendoza, Argentina specifically to attend Laura Catena’s Malbec Camp. Along the way we had the chance to spend an evening at Casa El Enemigo, a winery owned by Adrianna Catena and the Catena Zapata winemaker Alejandro Vigil. When explaining the concept of the winery Alejandro told us, “We are our own worst enemy, we shouldn’t be afraid to be ourselves.” Which is what he’s accomplishing here, directing the winemaking to what he wants the wines to be. I was blown away by the wines, and I am super excited to have a couple to offer. To buy these wines you must contact me directly at quinlan@tableandvine.com.

“This is really amazing with an exotic dried-fruit character of pineapple and mangoes. Full-bodied, rich and fruity with cream, pie-crust and caramel character. Crazy chardonnay with a little Jura style and some flor undertones. It really does have flor in the barrel when aging. Love. Get it. Drink now. 98 points.” James Suckling.
“…the 2016 El Enemigo Chardonnay has noticeable notes of curry and nuts, with higher acidity, which gives it somewhat of a Jura character. Superb! 94 points.” Wine Advocate
Gran Enemigo “Gualtallary” 2013- $119.99 the Gran Enemigo wines are all single-vineyard wines, in this case a blend of 85% Cabernet Franc and 15% of Malbec. It has tremendous fruit, nuanced, bright and a very fine mineral frame to the wine. Thick, rich and concentrated, it has to have great balance to pull it all together. Simply Spectacular!!!

“It’s very intense and powerful, but at the same time, there is a kind of lightness on the palate that makes if feel light on its feet but with great inner power. The peppery character appears after some time…and it also reminds me of my favorite Bordeaux, Pomerol’s Lafleur. This is definitely world-class and worth lying down, as it should develop further complexity in bottle. This is one of those wines where the only improvement I can think of is having magnums rather than bottles. Bravo! 100 points.“ Wine Advocate
